At first I was little bit skeptic, because the band’s name NACHTLIEDER (songs of the night) evoked associations of nursery rhymes and children songs. This connotation is not totally wrong, but "Lynx" is more some kind of fairy story for adults. An eerie fairy tale of darkness, melancholy and the enigmas of night. Just take a look at the brilliant cover painting, entitled "Guldnyckeln" and drawn by John Bauer in 1915. As far as I understand it hints to one of Grimms’ Fairy Tales. And as we all know those fairy tales were not some sweet, dinky and harmless stories but more a collection of folk tales and myths, brutal and gruesome, far beyond the horizon of political correctness. The eight tracks of "Lynx" are pure Black Metal in the vein of early Norwegian Black Metal. Band names like ENSLAVED and SATYRICON came to my mind while listening the third full-length by the Swedish based solo-project. As I mentioned before the earlier works of named bands, not what they played in later years. The charming or appealing aspect of "Lynx" is the focus on genuine Black Metal without any kinds of bombastic keyboards, instead atmosphere is created with the use of the generic instruments, namely guitar, bass guitar and drums. There are some synthesizer sounds, but very sparely used. Due to the use of blast beats only now and then the mood is not totally lacking of aggression, but not all the time. Dagny Susanne, the only member of the band, forged some great Black Metal riffs and she is brave enough to let the songs speak for themselves.
