NAE`BLIS
Beyond The Light

I have no clue where NAE’BLIS are from or if this is their debut album or if this is a project of some other musicians from more well known bands, but in fact this makes it easier to just concentrate on the music. Those seven songs on this disc here are probably best labelled “Depressive Black Metal” or what is nowadays understood as such, comparable to ABYSSIC HATE e.g. What is really outstanding throughout the complete record is that one can find two opposing guitar-lines in all songs. NAE’BLIS certainly do know how to write and arrange songs, the melodies are somehow catchy but seldom get to cheesy, and things are never too repetitive. But what NAE’BLIS definitely have to work on are the means on how to record their songs: the production is far too clean for such music, and the drum computer is far too much in the foreground. Despite that I think they really need to work on the fast patterns they use from the drum-machine because these are really annoying at the moment and disturb a lot of the atmosphere they initially created with their guitar-work. I am pretty sure that these are problems that can be coped with for their next effort. Until then, this is definitely not a bad investment, yet there are – of course – better bands in the depressive genre. www.no-colours-records.de
