NAGA
Inanimate

This release is a re-release of the EP NAGA put out 2016, which was only available on vinyl, so this time it is on CD with remastered sound and the bonus track ‘Worm’. When it comes to writing reviews I always try to get a second opinion, which means reading other reviews. Mostly my opinion goes confirm with what other people are thinking, but this time it is totally different. Just to quote a few other reviews: "[…]some of the most punishing and brutal Black and Doom Metal mix you have ever heard."; "There’s melody and sharpness woven through each sculptural composition […]"; "Aggressive, slow, sludgy, greasy, nasty, evil […]" and so on. Damn it, have we been listening to the same songs? Brutal, aggressive, nasty, evil? Well if you usually listening to Ed Sheeran 24/7 you may judge this way. Doom Metal can be brutal as f*ck, but NAGA’s riffs are plain boring. And Sludge Metal? The greasy gunk and scum feeling is totally missing. Melodies I have discovered none after more than a dozen spins of "Inanimate". If you want to experience "[…]humongous megaton DOOM" you better listen to the BLACK SABBATH cover ‘Electric Funeral’ by PANTERA. Compared to (early) CATHEDRAL, THACLTHI or WINTER the five tracks by NAGA are not a "slow-moving sonic apocalypse" but just dull and phlegmatic. To quote another review: "This supernatural snake is crawling slowly but steady to the top of the contemporary Sludge Doom scene." Be that as it may but NAGA are definitely not my cup of tea when it comes to Doom or Sludge. www.facebook.com/nagadoom, www.everlastingspew.com
