Passion is something which can be identified not only by the music itself but also, even if it had become seldom in these days, through the overall presentation of the release. In the case of the debut of the Belgium Black Metal horde NATAN the plain but nevertheless very impressive digipak is the proof that the understanding of the word Black Metal art has not to stop after leaving the recording studio. Musically “Het Zicht Van De Dood” is a great debut and it’s very difficult to mention all the different influences which had been summarized by the six members into a solid piece of Pagan / Black Metal steel. NATAN had been founded in 2001 and the band is in the position to keep their music very melodic even if they are operating in higher aggressive levels. The influences are raging from WINDIR, early ENSLAVED and especially when the band is slowing down to more dark camp fire atmosphere to bands like AGALLOCH or even early ULVER. What makes this album so fantastic is the convincing feeling that the band members are not jumping onto the driving train but that a deep feeling inside them is the driving force. “Het Zicht Van De Dood” is like a wild northern storm with ‘Mijn Lot’ – an instrumental as the calm eye of the tornado and NATAN is without doubt one of the real highlights of the Metal year 2008. This debut is the proof that not all hope and essence has completely faded over the years. www.natanhorde.be, www.ironagerecords.com
