I bet “Epitaph” is one of the most awaited Death Metal albums in the world-wide Death Metal underground. The outstanding debut album “Onset Of Putrefaction” by this masters of complex and technically brutality, which was recorded back in 1999, was one of the most spectacular and impressive Death Metal debuts from Germany ever. The only negative aspect was the limitation as a “one man orchestra” which caused the use of a drum machine. Hell yeah, meanwhile Muhammed, the genius head behind this band, re-built his band and NECROPHAGIST nowadays consists of four human beings including a drummer of flesh and blood. So my expectations were rather high. And “Epitaph” definitely did not disappoint me, no way!!! Muhammed delivered again breathtaking guitar leads, wonderful harmonies and head splitting razor-sharp riffs. “Epitaph” is an unbelievable masterpiece of neck breaking brutality which intertwines with brain spinning musicianship. “Epitaph” is a monument, a truly masterpiece of technically, complex but still rather straight, dynamic, brutal and uncompromising ass kicking Death Metal. I’m totally blown away by the virtuous guitar work and the bone shaking brutal, deep and vicious vocals. If you missed the brutality on the later DEATH albums, especially concerning Chucks vocals, then “Epitaph” will be the perfect album for you. Imagine the guitar work and the virtuosity of “The Sound Of Perseverance” or “Symbolic” performed in a much more brutal and furious way. “Epitaph” is a must have, no doubt about it. Don’t waste your time – buy this album as soon as possible and bow to the “Epitaph”!!!
