NECROVEN
Primordial Subjugation

It’s odd that a sunny and exotic place like Las Palmas, the capital of Spanish Gran Canaria Island, is where an obscure Death Metal act like NECROVEN was born. Actually from 2011 to 2015 they were active as a one-man band, where the mastermind J.R. in fact played all the instruments in every previous releases. This year, F.C. has been added to the line-up as bassist, so "Primordial Subjugation" is the first NECROVEN release as a two-piece band. Maybe some of you are familiar with them, four years ago their very good label Memento Mori released "Worship Of Humiliation", their first full-length. Moreover, another great label like Blood Harvest released the EP 7“ "Descent Into The Cryptic Chasm" in 2014. The new album is a coherent development of their sound, rooted in the early ’90s Death Metal of classic masterpiece like "Onward To Golgotha", "Altars Of Madness", "Dawn Of Possession" or "Ritual Of Infinity". No evolution, no experimental gamble, NECROVEN offer us only another dose of merciless, sulphurous and soul-ripping Death Metal in the old school tradition. When they create a dark atmosheare like in ‘Pyre Cycle (Burn In Solitude)’ my ears can’t be more satisfied, even if the comparison with INCANTATION is really predominant. Although the performance of J.R. on both guitars and drums is refined compared to the past but quite distant to maximum Death Metal standards, it’s estimable how he plays natural without evident digital edits. The production is generally great, I mean, every instrument is noticeable, well mixed with the vocals and none is too pumped up. I also believe that the mastering by Daw Lowndes (CRUCIAMENTUM) at Resonance Sound Studio is becoming a trademark for this kind of Death Metal, where the depth of the sound gets the right importance. Concerning the graphic aspect, the cover artwork by Joe Petagno is also a fitting choice, truly evocative and detailed. So my suggestion, if you’re not hungry of modern Death Metal but you are instead faithful followers of the ancient Death Metal, give a chance to NECROVEN.
