NEPENTE
Suffering Is The Seed

I think there can’t be a more suitable record label name for this album as "Suffering Is The Seed" is absolute a total sonic blast. I don’t know why but Death Metal bands from Colombia didn’t attract me that much in the past except a few hordes… and this squad from Manizales is one of these exceptions. NEPENTE has crafted 13 tracks (incl. five songs from their demo "Ascension" from 2005) of total brutal, malevolent and frenzied Death Metal with a blackened touch always on the edge of insanity… pure destructive mayhem. These guys know how to handle their instruments. The skilled riffing is quite technical but it flows and hits straight to the mark. The drumming is total destructive and bestial… pulverizes everything into dust. These are the ingredients for pure headbanging madness. When the band is on full speed and fly into a frenzy they remind on the early outputs the Masters Of Northern Hyperblast (a.k.a. KATAKLYSM) unleashed upon mankind. Besides all the neckbreaking parts this five piece even comes up with some excellent, more melodic guitar lines and interludes which seem to be influenced by old Scandinavian Black / Death bands. The speed is varied here and then, shifting the gear up and down in order to reach even more intensity. The sound of the album can convince me as well. The final touches (mixed and mastered) were done at the famous Hertz Studio in Poland. So quality is ensured and it is also no big suprise (due to that fact) that NEPENTE has a Polish flair in their sound. The five demo songs from "Ascension" are a bit weaker in terms of production and aggression but it’s great to have an idea how the band sounded back then when making the first steps. You can already hear in which direction their blasphemous onslaught will head to. If old KATAKLYSM, KRISIUN or some Polish Death squads are always guests on your playlist and you enjoy a touch of evil blackened music as well then you should immediately check out "Suffering Is The Seed".
