Are you looking for some fresh Black Metal? Then NOCTIS AETERNAE might be something for you! This band from Germany is really new, having formed only last year. It’s hard to find any information on the whereabouts of NOCTIS AETERNAE. Yet I would not be surprised if there are some former (or still active) members of other bands in the line-up, as the two original songs on the self-titled EP sound very balanced. NOCTIS AETERNAE take their inspiration from both the old school of Black Metal and the newer, more atmospheric style, finding their place somewhere in the middle. And the songwriting is also quite mature for a debut recording. Especially the nearly ten minute running ‘Nocturnal View Over Frozen Landscapes’ really got me with its distinct hint on MGLA and some Icelandic bands – MISÞYRMING comes to mind. But also the opening ‘The Legacy Of The Untold’ knows how to delight. So the two songs of the EP are a real promise of greater things to come. “Noctis Aeternae” gets completed by a cover of ‘Sleeping Under Tartaros’ from ZEMIAL that sounds rawer and more old fashioned than the original songs, yet works quite well on the EP.
