Even after several years I’m still not completely convinced about the necessity of such musical sub genres like Suicidal Black Metal. The heart of this style is 100% Black Metal with the only special feature that some parts are played with 16 rpm instead of the standard speed. But if a band is headed by a musician with the name H.Suizid and their first demo was called “Suicidal Thoughts” we can in some way make an exception to the rule. NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION is the brand new addition to the Avantgarde Music family and even if the layout of their third full release is gambling around with all the well known and expected suicidal topics – bleeding naked women, destroyed townships – I’m nevertheless more than impressed about the presented tracks. The band from France is showing the word that even if the terminus Suicidal (1) Black (2) Metal (3) is applicable the most important words are number two and three. The release is like a trip to the nearest top of the mountain, we already start our trip on a high level but with the final three tracks – in old times the side B – the band is reaching impressive (musical) heights. The material is extremely well composed and the band finds the perfect balance between despair and aggression on their tracks and especially the solo on ‘Dead Children’ is on one hand untypical as fuck for this style but nevertheless breathtaking. With this release NOCTURNAL DEPRESSION show once more that our dear friends from Avantgarde Music are still own a golden hand when it comes to bands that deserve their and our support.
