Each time you know of a new band, you expect that balance between the “classic” and “the new add”, I mean, what is this new band bringing to the scene? Well, that’s exactly what OMEGAETERNUM does. They bring both “the classic” and the “new add” to the scene. Formed in 2024, OMEGAETERNUM emerges from the shadowy depths of the French underground scene, and are here offering their debut full-length, “1248”. With the experience of its members who’ve played in several other bands, OMEGAETERNUM promises something within the realm of Black Metal. Though their name may be new, their sound definitely belongs to the darkest regions of the cosmos. The album’s conceptual tone draws from cosmic despair, the metaphysical and nightmarish realms that could be conjured by the deepest, most distorted visions. “1248” is an intense ride into the blackened void, where atmosphere is as crucial as the sound. The opening track, ‘Ye, Incantation’, is immediately telling what they have come for. When you listen to the album, you feel that each track unfolds a ritual, rooted in chaos, cosmic horror and despair, as I said before. ‘The Endless Quietus’ feels like a tortuous Lovecraftian cacophony, very oppressive and dark as fuck. But there’s more to OMEGAETERNUM than pure torture. On ‘The Devious Deceiver’, you can feel a sense of melancholic spirit, evoking vast landscapes of forgotten realms and ancient stones. Then ‘1248: The Symbols Swallower’, ‘1248: The Silent Tears Of The Stone Giant’ and ‘1248: Echoes From The Depths’ are like a cursed trilogy describing the nucleus of the story. It will transition around melancholy, deep atmospheres and a certain air of war anthem in the center. ‘My Inner Decline’ dives further into the anguish, putting this on the whole context and vision of the album. ‘In Outverse Slumber’ closes, taking you to a journey through cosmos, torment and beauty. “1248” is in any case an album that offers comfort, it’s a trip into the unknown, “Where Horror And Beauty Don’t Differ”.
