A band formed by members of ALCHEMYST, ANAEL and HELLISH CROSSFIRE, bands that I really like, is something surely to take notice. But do not expect anything similar to those bands. ORAE plays a form of psychedelic blackened and deathly Metal that sounds like a clash between early VOIVOD, MAYHEM and AUTOPSY with a great dose of 70s Rock and psychedelic and some Post Rock. The production is done in a way all instruments sound clear yet have a cavernous tone. This is not something one will get the first time. It is unorthodox, with many atmospheric interludes, and sometimes sounds asphyxiating. One song is completely an atmospheric tune, that actually sets the mood for my fave piece ‘Defection’ which also shows the industrial influences contained within. Straightforward Metal maniacs will find this hard to digest, but those looking for something far beyond the norm, will surely find it interesting. At times, this reminds me of some composition “madness” of the way some TRIPTYKON songs are arranged.
