Brazil’s Doom Metal sorcerers PANTÁCULO MÍSTICO continue their mystic conjurations with their self-titled full-length. Pantáculo Místico means “Mystic Pentacle” in Portuguese and over two decades, the quintet has crafted an esoteric discography shrouded in the occult. And this self-titled sophomore full-length, which was released back in 2022, carries on their sound as a ritualistic summoning into realms of mystery, darkness and sorrow. Opening with the whispered ‘Exortações’, keyboards and found sounds invoke the creep of dark energies. ‘Mandrágora’, felt like emerges through this fog, its obscure hymns guided by the towering grief of guitarist Cicero Rui and Jhony Garcia. Across gloomy melodies and the band’s signature blend of Doom with ethereal synth tones, Júnior Qz vocals entreat listeners. What follows are four spellbinding journeys to eternal places of lament. Clocking in up to 15 minutes, the tracks immerse fully in bleak atmospheres with doomy guitar riffs and keyboards weave hazy soundscapes to lost ancient realms. Though not for those seeking quickness of PENTAGRAM and SAINT VITUS; PANTÁCULO MÍSTICO’s esoteric craft persists in drawing listeners deep into realms of sorrow and mystery. Though these Brazilians take time for their emergences, still their decade long existence along with the band’s occult visions are for fans of the experimental and avant-garde within Doom, which deserves repeated listening and curious followings.
