Great packaging! This rehearsal demo (pretty good sound, though) comes in a DVD box looking good indeed. It’s pretty hard to believe these Germans founded their band only in 2002 – first of all because of the quality of their music and, secondly, because their style sounds more like early or rather mid 90s incantations à la DEATH or MORBID ANGEL. Maybe they’re a little more melodic (no Gothenburg-influences on here, though) and slower. Less complex, yet technical in a way. But as a listener, not as a musician: who needs awfully complex songs anyway as long as they rock? These Lovecraftian disciples manage to create quite a creepy atmosphere. Especially because of their eeevil sounding vocalist Mike Seifert. Very old school, very deep and you can understand his words. A more powerful production would help a lot although it’s more than just okay for a rehearsal demo. Expect PHILOSOPHER’s debut album by the end of 2004 via Ruptured Silence, so check their homepage every once in a while. Promising band! www.philosopher-music.de
