PUTRED returns from the depths of the Romanian underground Death Metal scene and are presenting their second full-length, “Megalit Al Putrefacției”, released last January of 2025. This 10 track album takes you into pure, unfiltered Death Metal filth. That’s what it does! Since forming in 2020, the band has been releasing several demos, EPs, splits and even a live album in between, all leading up to this monolithic slab of rot. If you have been following PUTRED’s trajectory, you know exactly what to expect: darkness, decay and an uncompromising devotion to the grotesque. PUTRED is very grotesque! Musically, “Megalit Al Putrefacției” keeps PUTRED firmly planted in the traditions of old school Death Metal. Their sound is deeply entrenched in the lineage of AUTOPSY, GRAVE, ASPHYX or NECRONY, all bands they’ve previously paid tribute to through covers. However, rather than simply replicating their influences, PUTRED injects their own brand of Eastern European morbidity, making their sound feel both familiar and uniquely their own. The album goes from start to finish with the kind of “putrid” groove that defined the early ‘90s in Death Metal in Europe, complemented very well here with the cavernous growls emanating from the vocal department. There’s an undeniable sickness in the way these songs emerge and twist. For me, PUTRED embraces an organic sound, exuding a morbid, rotting atmosphere that I found very accurate. Tracks like ‘Dominare Malefică’, ‘Aură Macabră’ or ‘Spectre Torturate’ showcase some slow, ominous doom passages before erupting into a more primitive spirit, but still maintaining the songs around the mid-tempos territory. Meanwhile, ‘Necromanție’ and ‘Megalit Al Putrefacției’ keep the line, evoking the same suffocating energy that made early GRAVE or AUTOPSY so damn effective. Every track is transitioning and feeling like something decomposing just beneath the soil. Lyrically, “Megalit Al Putrefacției” continues PUTRED’s obsession with decay and the macabre. Though Romanian Death Metal doesn’t always get the same recognition as its Western European or American bands, PUTRED proves that the underground in this region is just as vile and uncompromising. Their commitment to the old ways is evident in every note, every scream, every moment of this sonic destruction. ‘Părăsit În Purgatoriu’, ‘Inscripții Antice’ and ‘Era Morbiditații’ just emphasize the nature of the album, bringing some sort of more technicality to it but still without going beyond the boundaries of that “decomposed” vibe all across the 10 tracks displayed here. And what to say about the closing track? Well, ‘Critical Madness’ is a masterpiece that emerged from the first days of AUTOPSY, classic track and very well represented by PUTRED on this cover. I really enjoyed it as it has the right evil sound tone AUTOPSY put on the original track. Killer cover! So, this “Megalit Al Putrefacției” will sound as raw as we are used to with this kind of sound, filthy, disgusting (in the best way possible). Romania’s Death Metal scene is alive and well, PUTRED rises as one of its most rotting forces for sure. Check them out! www.facebook.com/metalputredalmortii, www.facebook.com/memento.mori.label
