RAVAGED BY THE YETI

Maybe it is my love for animal horror movies, but when I heard the name RAVAGED BY THE YETI, I just had to apply for the chance to review it. Even though there are always a few songs here and there from various bands that deal with this topic, I was not aware of a band that focuses entirely on it. And then on the Yeti, that (in)famous creature from Tibet. Whether the concept can sustain an entire band and not just an album is something everyone must decide for themselves. The debut “Apex Predator” was released in 2023 and featured 24 songs in 45 minutes, a blend of Death Metal and Grindcore. “Snowbound Horror” stilly builds on the concept, but there have been fundamental changes musically. A quick look at the running time gives you a hint of this. This time there are only eleven songs in just under 35 minutes, which means the length of the songs has increased by almost two-thirds. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of the Grindcore elements. While the debut is also recommended for Grindcore fans, the follow-up leans very heavily towards Death Metal. That does not necessarily have to be a bad thing, but it is really just run-of-the-mill, off-the-rack Death Metal that, to stick with the concept, leaves you out in the cold. Where you do not run into the Yeti, but rather Rogga Johansson, who is also taking (some of) the responsibility here. I would not rule out the possibility that there are listeners out there who enjoy his signature mid-tempo Death Metal, they should definitely give this a listen. www.facebook.com/ravagedbytheyeti, www.facebook.com/testimonyrecords
