From the band monicker and tracklisting, ROCKING CORPSES are obviously a Death’n’Roll band. And while I don’t care for the genre as a whole, I do like latter-day metallic followers of MOTÖRHEAD. And, as I also happen to be on a VENOM binge as of late (lay down your soul to the gods rock’n’roll) as well as savoring the recent, promising CHAPEL debut, I was in a prime mood to hear some rockish noise. Unfortunately, this band doesn’t live up to expectations. Utilizing vocals that are 50% death growls and 50% ‘rock radio’ style, the songs range in sound from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, to RATT (the song ‘925’), to "Load" – era METALLICA (‘Rocking Corpses’). In essence, the growls are the only vaguely "Death Metal" thing about ROCKING CORPSES. There’s very little muscle or attitude with this band. Lemmy could knock them down with one of his farts. I hear this kind of stuff in bars all the time, and it has me either muttering profanities or quickly headed for the exit. Frankly, even old Chuck Berry songs have more balls to them. By the time a D-Beat appears in the closing track, its a little too late to grab my interest. We need greasy riffs and rude vocals – not to mention the mandatory tales of wife-stealing and brass knuckles and falling down stairs blind-drunk. Sorry guys, you need to pick up the aggression and vulgarity next time. www.rockingcorpses.com, www.officialabyssrecords.com
