"The Test That Divides Us All" is the third album from Polish power trio ROTENGESIT. They have been active since 2005 and they have two previous albums, released in 2009 and 2014 respectively. They do play Thrash Metal, but their influences are all over the place. Their brand of Metal has a lot of progressive overtones. The album is a tour de force when it comes down to how varied and interesting it gets as it plays. I dig the fact that every time I listened to it, I found something I haven’t heard or noticed before. The song structures, the riffs, the tempo changes, the odd meters and everything adds up perfectly. Some may say they tend to sound too "Aggro Thrash" or "Core". But that is only a matter of modern production mixed with some good old Thrash and Progressive Metal. So, no worries here. Actually, there were three bands that came to my mind listening to this: CORONER, ANACRUSIS and VEKTOR. As said above, the production is modern and crisp. Mostly in the drum department, since they do sound triggered, but this doesn’t get in the way of the album. Both, the guitars and the bass are solid and razor sharp. The vocals are great. Imagine a mix of two Phils (Rind and Anselmo). Then you have a mix of solid and twisted guitar riffs. The bass guitar is not only part of the rhythm section, but a highlight. It is amazing how it finds its place through that huge wall of guitars. The drums add a lot to the songs, with interesting fills, tempo changes and wild parts. And just to make it more odd, there is a cover version of ‘Gest Idoli’ from the Polish Punk band KARCER. Overall, if you are a fan of the aforementioned bands or if you are in desperate need of some really good Progressive Thrash Metal, you need to check out "The Test That Divides Us All". It is an album that will grow on you after every listen, I can assure you that. You can find more info about the band here: www.facebook.com/rotengeist.
