The band SAEL had been completely unknown to me – so listening to their debut was like jumping into cold water. But after several dives into their 4 track debut I can confirm that the waters in France are also frost bidden cold and that these 6 monsieurs really know how to create great songs even if the playing time of their songs is extending the normal 4 to 6 minutes scheme. SAEL’s main advantage comparing with a lot of other newcomers from all around the world is their style variety within the traditional limits of Black Metal and a dark atmosphere without massive keyboard abuse. The 3 songs plus one instrumental with a long spoken passage are living through their high aggressive level but the band is not losing track of their music, every song is offering a small variety of the term true Black Metal. Especially the title track with its nearly 11 minutes can only be called a powerful opus and this song has huge parallels with Norwegian cult acts like old MANES and TULUS which maybe can named as source of inspiration. But SAEL had found their way and this EP is a further proof for the new era of French Black Metal. http://pictonian.records.free.fr
