Apart from PENTAGRAM (no, not the superior and better known Chilean band), I cannot recall having listened to many bands from Turkey. However, Metal is more global than ever now, so the likelihood of a band popping up from Antarctica seems quite high. Branding themselves old school Grindcore, SAKATAT do just that: nothing more, nothing less. Thus, if you want to listen to a band that pays normal homage to old foundational bands such as TERRORIZER, CARCASS, early NAPALM DEATH, SOB, etc, you’ll get what you receive. Unfortunately, while it’s certainly nice to see more and more bands embrace the past, there is something to be said for directly cynical copy-cat practices. Although derivative clone bands were a problem in days past, they weren’t congratulated and given full blown tours on the strength of one idol-worshipping album. I enjoy this album and I’m sure you will too, but why listen to this when there’s "World Downfall" or "Horrified"? Make no mistake, however: though abjectly indebted to their forebears, SAKATAT is an enjoyable band. I simply wouldn’t call them original or particularly interesting in the long term. www.sakatatgrindcore.com
