SARUMAN
Ride On The Darkside

How original! Let’s find a name for our band. Maybe “The Lord Of The Rings” has a good one for us. Musically, SARUMAN are slightly more innovative. It’s not really easy to label them. The basis is brought to you via low tuned guitars playing something evil guys might call Gothic Death Metal with sort of Black Metal vocals or whatever. Lots of groove – yeah, pretty dominant bass drums. Some monotony on here as well but what makes this interesting is the cello (yeah, too low for a violin, I think). Some parts almost remind me of APOCALYPTICA. Without ever reaching their brilliance. This one’s really got bottom. The songs are catchy, maybe a little too catchy but SARUMAN never get as superfluous as the German faggots CREMATORY. Something makes me want to compare these two bands but it would be quite an insult as SARUMAN are still METAL, even brutal from time to time. No blast beats, though. But something tells me that if SARUMAN are lucky they could make quite a few CREMATORY fans join them. Maybe some Medieval Metal- or SIX FEET UNDER fans as well. Once again: the cello grants them the right to exist but apart from that it’s okay, nothing more, nothing less. Sort of ‘Girlie Metal’ (whatever that may be, sorry).
