Black Metal reigns supreme… grimness, coldness and darkness are all here again. It’s that time of the season when listening to some pitch-Black Metal feels more comfortable than, let’s say, in the middle of summer when the sun is up and never seems to descend behind the horizon, birds are singing nonstop – and the air is full of the smell of summer. Okay, cut the crap now. Enter SCARIFICARE from Portugal, and their 2nd opus titled "Postulado" – and all your remaining, pathetic thoughts about anything related to those sunny and warm times, are gone in the snap of seconds. "Postulado" let us enter the realm of eternal darkness, in which misery and freezing coldness become your only friends relatively quick. This Portuguese trio have obviously made their countless visits to some blackest and grimmest fields of Norse sounding Black fuckin’ Metal – and they have undoubtedly done that more than just once or twice in their life. The SCARIFICARE horde pretty much pays a great homage to some primitive sounding Scandinavian Black Metal (early MAYHEM comes to my mind in particular), and whether they have adopted the kind of sound on purpose or even coincidentally, it doesn’t really matter in the end of the day because they are able to touch all the essential ingredients of Norse blackness in a relatively convincingly way on "Postulado". Both raw Black Metal snarls as well as some clean vocal parts are used here and there on this recording, just to strengthen the band’s own visions and aesthetics about sheer finesse and beauty of blackened Norse darkness and frosty grimness. Look at this any way you want but "Postulado" is all about traditional Black Metal done right, sort of re-awakening a slumbering evilness back to life again. Good stuff is always good stuff indeed.
