It’s not that long ago that I reviewed a Finnish band here that was dug out by the still underrated tape label Caligari. And it seems like they made another great find in the land of the thousand lakes. SCUMRIPPER are from Karelia like their label mates OBDUKTIO, yet from the Southern part of this historical area, from the town of Lappeenranta. Musically, SCUMRIPPER are either based in a primal kind of extreme music, but different all the way. Their untitled first sign of life is a kind of primordial Thrash Metal, punkish, rude and rotten. Supported by a raw and vigorous production, the six mainly short songs spread the aggression and feeling of some old Crossover bands from the mid and late 1980s. I’m talking about bands like THE ACCÜSED, CONCRETE SOX, HEIBEL and X-CRETA here. Yet, SCUMRIPPER are by far more rooted in Metal like these bands, bastardizing in Death, Thrash and Black Metal and even in Death’n’Roll. This furious mix is a real joy, making me punch my fists in the air and devastating my room with a one man mosh pit. Songs like the grooving fucker ‘Burning Of The Midnight Tramp’ or the rocking band anthem ‘Scumripper’ are the best soundtrack for a circle slam. So, don’t hesitate to start your own home-grown pit and check SCUMRIPPER at http://scumripper.bandcamp.com or www.facebook.com/scumripper. Or save your own tape copy at www.caligarirecords.com or www.facebook.com/caligarirecords before it is too late.
