Avantgarde Post Black Metal à la Polish SEAGULLS INSANE AND SWANS DECEASED MINING OUT THE VOID… this type of pun just always tends to send some cold shivers down my spine, as I am already pretty sure what there’s to be expected from releases like the one I have on my table right now as we speak. Formed by Havoc (BLINDEAD, ex – BEHEMOTH, etc.) and Nihil (FURIA, MOROWE, MASSEMORD, etc.) in February 2011, after spending 7 days on Saturn and in its vicinity, as their info kit states that arrived together with the actual disc. So, one needs to travel somewhere in the outer space in order to come up with something this extreme in terms of different noises that one just collects for one record – and then decides cleverly to call it as ‘Avantgarde Post Black Metal’? Well, I have simply nothing against being clever, smart, creative and all that but sometimes some certain releases neither ever seem to grow in you – nor you’d understand what’s really going on in them, resulting in being a real turn-off experience for you. I am not certain yet whether these 2 Polish – obviously musically very experienced fellows, have truly managed to create something on here that would eventually open my eyes, ears, mind, whatever really – for the stuff that they have done on this 5-track opus (the songs have been titled as ‘I’, ‘II’, ‘III’, ‘IV’ and ‘V’, by the way). Too much digitally processed effects and noises – and less actual real music on this self-titled release is that thing that unfortunately pushes me away from it, further and further the more I am trying to sink my teeth into it. I would add – sadly, because at times there are parts on this record that seem to appeal my liking quite much even – and stimulate my mind to think whether we have got something extraordinary, smartly composed and unique stuff on this release after all. Well, maybe that’s even the case with this record but for my personal tastes, this stuff obviously ended up being too disturbing and mind confusing stuff for yours truly.
