SERPENT RIDER - The Ichor Of Chimaera
(No Remorse Records)

Upon taking on this release, I must say I was immediately drawn to the logo of the band and the cover art. Both are very well done and, for me, highly indicative of the music contained within. It’s like a book or comic of those Dungeons & Dragons days of yore. You may find the music touches upon those feelings as well. So if you take bits of MANILLA ROAD, TWISTED TOWER DIRE and maybe touches of early RAINBOW, and even maybe early JUDAS PRIEST. It’s a bit hard to pinpoint because this style is not very prominent nowadays. The music conveys an old school Power Metal energy, and all that’s missing is hearing the slight scratch sound of vinyl as you press play. Having said that, I feel some may find their music a bit too niche, or you may have to be of a certain age to appreciate the music the band puts forth. The vocalist has a slightly monotone delivery, but overall, her approach offers a different sound and feel to the songs, lending a bit of mysticism. The production, though clear and all instrumentation is heard, it still has more of that old school, slightly flat feel. Nothing negative, mind you, I truly appreciate the band’s delivery and giving us all a sound that, for many, brought us into the world of Metal. So fans that look for old school ’70s influenced Power Metal with a slightly different, dare I say Progressive feel? Give them a listen. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised. www.facebook.com/serpentriderband, www.facebook.com/noremorserecordsgreece
