Formed in 2019, here is a young band that would clearly fit in perfectly well at Headbangers Open Air in Germany (or other gatherings of old school Metal freaks in Europe or elsewhere). From Phoenix, Arizona, SHOW N TELL send a clear message: fast Heavy Metal is still a force to be reckoned with. Untouched by modern influences, they play it like it’s ’85 – and the old men and women of Metal would certainly bang their hoary mullets, whether fan or musician! Here’s why: kicking off with ‘Rip N Tear’, SHOW N TELL display a fast, Speed Metal style resembling bands like old HELLOWEEN (“Walls Of Jericho”), perhaps also newcomers VULTURE from Germany (who only started their band four years before SHOW N TELL). Listeners might also think of NIGHT DEMON: like Ventura’s finest, SHOW N TELL display a passion for riff-based, fast and slightly raw music; there are no keyboards or kitsch here. Many common features of the two bands can be found in the lyrics: titles like ‘The Ritual Has Begun’, referring to worhsipping and practices outside Christianity, ‘Heavy Metal’ as a homage to our most beloved music are strong themes of both bands, as are rebellion and lonely fighting against all odds in ‘I’m Alive’. SHOW N TELL perhaps are more more Speed Metal; general Heavy Metal would be too broad as a genre description. This goes for ‘Run To The Light’: despite being a bit slower, the screaming and high-pitched singing of the song reminds of HELLOWEEN’s Michael Kiske in his young years. ‘Night Stalker’ and some of the other tracks contain amazing melodic guitar runs that bring ACCEPT to mind. Obviously, the music of SHOW N TELL is pointing back at a time when genres were not as clearly defined as they are today. Heavy Metal and Speed Metal could blend into one another within songs, on albums, in band’s discographies over the course of time, or on festival billings, a fact that is also incarnated in the music of other young bands like ENFORCER, PORTRAIT, or SCREAMER. “The Ritual Has Begun” is a credible start for SHOW N TELL, and they might well be the next successful band in this field! www.facebook.com/officialshowntell, www.facebook.com/noremorserecordsgreece
