SLAVESON
The Fabled Beast
(self-financed)
39:48min

SLAVESON is a Death / Thrash project from Austria. Having released three early demos and disappearing for nearly two decades SLAVESON is back with a self-financed full length titled “The Fabled Beast”. The album runs just under 40 minutes and packs the regular Death Metal punch. With raspy vocals backed by generic Metal riffing that could fit in anywhere, SLAVESON has put out a fairly enjoyable full length. I understand this is more or less a solo project of Thomas Haugeneder and you can kind of make that out right away. This album could’ve been elevated instantly by a live drummer and I hope Thomas does get one because his riffs sound pretty neat. I’m not a fan of dry raspy vocals but Thomas kinda makes it work here. Track # 2, ‘Inner Scream’ is perhaps the best representation of SLAVESON on this album. Razor sharp riffs, on-point drumming and aggressive vocals fit in very well. However, the programmed drums get in the way from time to time. As we listen to tracks further down, the experience certainly gets better, say from track # 6 ‘Human’ where things feel much more coherent. Again, the songwriting seems fair, but the overall cohesion of the elements put together could use further care. A standalone vocalist and a drummer could add so much more depth here. I can almost imagine good deep growling over these riffs and it’d sound incredibly fantastic. Finally, the lyrics could use a touch of work as well. All in all, SLAVESON has put out a reasonable album and there’s so much untapped potential yet to be discovered here. For more information, please visit https://slaveson.bandcamp.com
