SLIMELORD are a Leeds based Death Metal band that has never seen the sun! They’re filthy, muddy, echoey, decrepit cave dwellers drowned in a pit of everything unholy. With no disregard for the average mortal, they’ve gone to write riffs using sharpened stones, drum on reverberating sludge and inflict pain on voiceless swamp monsters to gather their shrieks. This is the best Death Metal EP I’ve heard so far this year. The atmosphere is not just cavernous, it is rudimentary, engulfing like a mushroom cloud, the guitars just stomp on the traditional song writing approaches, they bellow and build, summoning the eeriness of a low budget horror movie. If this is any indication of the things to come, I am fully invested. Frankly, I’m surprised they are unsigned. This is a phenomenal evolution of the genre, the guitars feel like an uneven scalpel making random incisions on the patient. The drumming is perfect, nothing more, nothing less and even amidst this maze of horror, the bass shines following the guitars adding in further layers of depth, stellar! Heavy to the bone and with a chilling tone, SLIMELORD manage to successfully carve out a space for themselves in today’s cluttered boundaries of the genre. This is not an EP, this is an aural short film focussed on ripping apart perceptions of writing and execution. If you like horror movies or have heard Death Metal at least once in your life, you need to check out SLIMELORD. Highly recommended! Category: Soundtrack to a fist fight with swamp monsters in slow motion!
