SLIGHTERING DECAY are a relatively young band from Belgium and “Aeons Untold” is their first full length out via Testimony Records. Even before we get to the music, can we admire the artwork here please? I absolutely love it, it somehow feels like an extension of “Left Hand Path” and I spent more time with it than I thought I would. “Aeons Untold” is a modern HM2 love story told well. An artillery of riffs, excellent drumming and the classic Swedish vocals leave no space for any errors or gaps in execution. SLITHERING DECAY holds their own pretty well throughout the album. A huge shoutout to the entire band for excellent songwriting and top notch musicianship. The issue is neither that of quality nor that of execution, personally the “21st century old school Death Metal” worship space is now saturated and even in such an environment SLITHERING DECAY manages to impress with an excellent slab of Metal. The solos are easily the best part of the record, some are blinding fast without losing the base of melody, while some fit into the entire schema with ease. Definitely recommended, fans of the Swedish sound would love this release from start to finish. On the other hand it is quite a standard release that you’d expect when someone pays homage. Check them out, I’m positive you will be drowned in their ruthless approach of Swedish Death Metal.
