SOLARCRYPT
Rot In The Multidimensional Sewer
(Morbid Chapel Records)
22:06min

SOLARCRYPT is a Costa Rica based one man Death Metal project. Originally a digital release, Morbid Chapel records has pressed this demo on a limited series CD. Morbid Chapel Records on their Bandcamp page says “(This is) An absolute tribute to old school Death Metal. If you worship ROTTREVORE, INCANTATION and BOLT THROWER elements woven into this – this demo is a must for you to get!” which is spot on. To be fair that is the best summary of this demo. SOLARCRYPT is only focusing on the horribly down tuned guitars weaving euclidean patterns in the dark. The rhythm is essentially a goop of tribute riffs and loud acoustic drums. The sound transports us directly to a late 80s environment. If you’re a fan of BOLT THROWER, this is pretty much the ideal worship material. Although there isn’t a direct derivation from the INCANTATION sound, SOLARCRYPT invokes their spirit into the atmosphere. INCANTATION’s slow passages are one of the best atmospheric pieces you’d ever come across and SOLARCRYPT is surely inspired. However the unmissable mid-tempo double bass throughout the demo is simply BOLT THROWER’s signature which SOLARCRYPT embraces without an issue, even delivering it to perfection. The drums are slightly higher in the mix, it doesn’t pose any problem at all throughout the demo. The vocals speak in tongues of the swamp monster adding to the excellent environment. This 4 track demo is a good tribute to all that’s old school, if you’re reading this, check out Morbid Chapel Records and preferably get a CD. I could actually listen to this on a ride in Disneyland.
