SPLATTERHOUSE

From the rather cheesy moniker this 2002 founded band from the city of Portland, Oregon chose I did not expect something too good, but how much better do I know now…"The House That Dead Built", the trio’s debut is simply a fantastic, straight and fresh sounding piece of old school Death / Grind in the vein of CARCASS, EXHUMED, IMPALED, GHOUL with a good dose of traditional Thrash Metal and a catchy melodic feel now and then that definitely rocks the morgue! Vocal wise you get a typical growl / scream / gurgle mix, tempos vary from blasting violence to groovier passages and total thrashing drive. The production was done by a guy called Jesse O’Donnell and turns out to be excellent, too! Everything sounds unpolished, raw and powerful, in no way as sterile as the last EXHUMED. What I personally really enjoyed was that the guitar sound is a little reminiscient of old Skogsberg-produced Swedish Death Metal with its characteristic filthy, dark and heavy tone (just check ‘Coffin Birth’ or ‘Night Of The Creeps’ and you’ll agree). If you should like any of the aforementioned bands and are interested in varied, ripping grinding Death Metal get this album, it’s hereby highly recommended to all you gorehounds!
