STAV
Meditate To Kill

French extreme Metal duo STAV (which seems to be only a one man band now) released their debut album back in 2012 and it is being re-released on cassette via Caverna Abismal Records now. The first thing to notice is the killer Paolo Giraldi cover art. The music is a good mixture of Black Metal and Death Metal, with a snare drum sound that I personally like, but some people might think it is a bit high on treble. The music style has an early MORBID ANGEL meets SAMAEL vibe. At times the band reminds me of a faster version of NECROS CHRISTOS. The production values might be more of a well done demo rather than a full length but for some reason it works here. The band is quite comfortable playing in a fast tempo and they do it quite well, if maybe at times some parts of songs sound similar. The final result of this album can be compared in style to that one of ANGELCORPSE. Quite enjoyable for once, and the 2012 digipak version on Chalice of Blood Angel Productions comes with a big poster of the great cover art, so a reason more to look out for this great band.
