SVARTELD is a melodic Black Metal band, formed around 2019 in the woodlands of Sweden. Ola Brandt, the sole head of everything, released the debut demo “Nederlag För Korset” at the very end of 2019 independently, which later was released by Marwolaeth Records (cassette) and very recently Morbid Chapel Records reissued this on digital and a very limited run of 25 hand-numbered cassettes in a red shell. Six tracks, played in less than 20 minutes, will give you an early hint about this demo, which is raw, brittle and icy, like the frozen winds of the north. Stylistically you will recognize the icy cold and raw melodic riffs akin to the traditional Second Wave Black Metal sound but you will definitely discover something intriguing as well, like lyrics in native Swedish tongue, old-style song structures aided by old school guitar solo patterns with variance that worked very well to establish the flow. Also, interestingly, some obvious homage to distinctive Swedish Folk Metal, with troubled and haunted piano pieces, did set up the cold ambience throughout the record. Here, SVARTELD bring forth their raw and uncompromising attitude with melodicism that is meaner and darker, like you will experience in ‘Galder Över Sejden’ and ‘En Tjärn Av Mörker’. And the coldness of ‘Färd Mot Hemman’, with a very oppressive vocal throwing, might hold the total essence of this demo. Intense, grim and melodic compositions with an ice-cold atmosphere, visually expressive album artwork and logo (Dekan Art), altogether marks an intriguing beginning of SVARTELD.
