SWALLOW THE SUN
New Moon

In my world Doom Metal must sound dark – maybe not abyssal dark – but at least in some way full of solitude and despair. The latest SWALLOW THE SUN release “New Moon” is offering in contrary to the band name too much light and the Finnish band is approaching with their fourth album well known early AMORPHIS territories. Melancholy is drifting over “New Moon” like waves of fog and the essence of this release is unfortunately nothing more than good play and solid Metal music. I was really looking forward to this album – due to the enormous praise for this band during the last years. But I have to admit that something is missing nevertheless the fact that “New Moon” is offering good songs – for example the final track ‘Weight Of The Dead’ with a fantastic opening part. The release is maybe essential for a cold evening cornered by a good bottle of wine but if it comes to this music there are dozens of releases which are offering in some way more – it’s up to you if you want to talk about emotions or if you prefer the pure musical approach.
