TARDIGRADA
Vom Bruch Bis Zur Freiheit
(Eisenwald)

In case you didn’t know yet: The Helvetic Underground committee is a network of rather new Swiss bands that share their passion for unique Black Metal. The probably best known members of this circle are probably UNGFELL and DAKHMA, but TARDIGRADA, based in Basel and Zürich, might be the next band to gain some more international recognition. “Vom Bruch Bis Zur Freiheit” is their second album for Eisenwald after their 2016 debut “Emotionale Ödnis”. As its predecessor, it delivers fine atmospheric and gloomy Black Metal, even refined and more intense here. Asides from four short instrumental interludes, named in Latin numbers as a band tradition (this album features ‘VI’ to ‘IX’), “Vom Bruch Bis Zur Freiheit” contains four very long songs, running from ten to nearly seventeen minutes. Despite their length, these songs are not a bit boring. Atmosphere, variety and intensity are the keys to the music of TARDIGRADA. And the interludes help to keep up the tension, as well as a few quiet breaks. Thus songs like the brilliant ‘Verrat’ or the final title track might need some time and a few more run-throughs, but they are worth the time. In the end you’ll discover more very fine Black Metal with atmosphere, if you’re into dark and gloomy stuff.
