Does anyone remember the band PAX MORTIS from California? When PAX MORTIS fell into the grave the mid-nineties the drummer of that technical Death Metal band extricated his corpse from that strewn pile of bones, clawing his way to higher ground, and thus with the help of a few of his friends put together another sacrifice to all that is heavy and brutally riffed. THE NEW PLAGUE is far and away better than anything PAX MORTIS could of written or ever contributed to the Californian scene. Far more savage, far more direct in their MORBID ANGEL / CANNIBAL CORPSE-esque writing and delivery, where PAX MORTIS excelled in originality, the level of professionalism displayed on this disc here easily crushes those benchmarks made and in truth for fans of PAX, THE NEW PLAGUE easily makes up for any discrepancies between these two bands and then sum! Quality writing, and with a level of professionalism not readily seen in acts from this area, not to say that 12 years of this band’s existence honing their skills to the limit have anything to with this, they most certainly do!
