THE OBSCENE MACHINE
The Obscenity Within

THE OBSCENE MACHINE hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland and despite being formed in 2011 it sounds like these guys have been around for some time. “The Obscenity Within” is a short and to-the-point excercise in brutal Death Metal with some grinding blast beats and slamming parts that doesn’t get too irritating as it gets in, does the job and fucks off. 9 tracks that make up this mini CD don’t offer anything new in terms of originality and won’t bend your ears with super technical shredding. Instead the band chooses a well-throdden path of grinding and kinda mechanical Death Metal, not far away from less impressive CANNIBAL CORPSE or SUFFOCATION moments mixed with some CEPHALIC CARNAGE quirkiness. The overall sound is kinda dry, especially on guitars, but on the whole it sounds fairly organic and not overcompressed, which is a bonus when listening to this sort of music. I’ve read that THE OBSCENE MACHINE really delivers the goods on the live front, so if you’re travelling through Belfast, you might wanna check them out. As for this mini CD, it shows a tight band that keeps the brutality element at the forefront of their game, yet not afraid to veer into some weirder rhythmic / riffing wastelands. Definitely recommended if you crave for some grinding, slamming brutality, just don’t be looking for catchy songs or anything that will blow your mind. Well above average and worth of keeping an ear on. www.theobscenemachine.com, www.grindscene.co.uk
