THE SEVEN GATES
MMXIII

THE SEVEN GATES are a quite new band from France, that features Michel Dumas, a French underground legend, active in MUTILATED and ABYSSALS among other bands. His new band is active since 2005, having released two demos and a full-length, “Angel Of Suffering”, in 2009. Since I haven’t heard their older stuff, I have to concentrate on “MMXIII”, their latest demo. It features two new tracks, ‘Polymorph Demon’ and ‘Of Gods… Of Saints… Of Graves’. Listening to these tracks, THE SEVEN GATES can hardly deny that they are very familiar with MORBID ANGEL, especially their older stuff. It means, we have fast, technical Death Metal here, Florida style and very well done, without any doubt. Somebody might say that THE SEVEN GATES are missing the final kick, the last bit of individuality. But on the other hand, I can’t deny the feeling that this is better than MORBID ANGEL are now (some kind of blasphemy here? Yes!). And the songs are great as well, especially ‘Of Gods… Of Saints… Of Graves’ with its focus on midtempo beats and melodic breaks is a very fine one. Afficionados of Trey Azagthoth’s music can’t do anything wrong checking this demo out. Up to now, “MMXIII” is only available as a digital demo, so you should check: https://soundcloud.com/the-seven-gates-1 or find them on facebook: www.facebook.com/pages/the-seven-gates/108111308073. In the meantime I am waiting for someone to put this out as a vinyl 7″…
