This was one of those releases that I wasn’t too eager to listen to when I got it. The rather weird band name and the kinda strange looking coverart seemed to be enough reasons for me already to avoid this. And the fact that THEE MALDOROR KOLLECTIVE are from Italy (a land which not necessarily gave birth to many exciting brutal bands yet) didn’t really help my enthusiasm either. But after I had “survived” the record for the first time, it already left me kinda speechless. Even though the musical elements that these guys are incorporating into their sound are normally not what I consider enjoyable in extreme Metal, THEE MALDOROR KOLLECTIVE managed to mix hypotizing EBM / industrial kinda elements with harsh Black Metal in such an impressive manner that the album quickly took over my consciousness. The results kinda sounds like late SAMAEL meets RAMMSTEIN at a DARKTHRONE rehearsal, but a lot more extreme and aggressive composed, with many unique ideas. Unlike many Black Metal acts who usually get inspired by medieval elements, the overall sound of these guys comes across very futuristic, but always in a heavy and very intense way. Unfortunately the record looses breath a bit towards the end and partly even sounds very annoying due to the overused, distorted industrial parts, but all in all this is still far better than what the so called innovators from Norway have produced lately.
