THRYMR
Saga Of The North

The name Trym Torson should ring a bell to every Black Metal fan, his work for bands like EMPEROR and ENSLAVED made him one of the most influential musicians in the Norwegian scene back in the 1990s. THRYMR is his solo-project and as much as I appreciate his previous work, the debut “Saga Of The North” is a complete fail. The style can be classified somewhere between Dungeon Synth and Dark Ambient and even if you have not stopped reading yet and have a preference for those genres, the album fails in its own ambitions. According to the record label’s info, “Saga Of The North” features “cinematic soundscapes telling an epic viking story”. But nothing applies to that description. Whether it’s epic nor cinematic and a story, be it viking or something else, is hardly to discover. Instead it is just an accumulation of some synthesizer sounds, that would even for an intro or outro be boring as hell. There are no emotions evoked, no tension or anything remarkable. If anyone still wants to know more about the candidate for most boring album of the year (decade?), then please visit www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565880123700 or www.facebook.com/darknessshallriseproductions
