TOWER HILL is a traditional Heavy Metal band from Canada, founded initially as a one-man project in 2020 by vocalist R.F. Traynor. Then they became a five-man force soon after the release of their “Fighting Spirits” demo tape in early 2021. The fact that Canada delivers special encouragement for the new wave of Heavy Metal has been known since bands like SKULL FIST or RIOT CITY. As per the demo, their sound was inspired by old school Heavy and Power Metal bands like RUNNING WILD, JUDAS PRIEST, RIOT, STORMWITCH, early BLIND GUARDIAN and HELLOWEEN. And the quartet is on the same path and now puts their debut album on the table with “Deathstalker”. This will be evident from the very opening as the record kicks things off with the title track ‘Deathstalker’, which begins with some brief harmonious guitar work, hook-driven riffing, and fast-paced dynamic drumming. The high pitch and aggressive vocals of R.F. Traynor’s vocals will give a sweet feeling in the ear, and one can sense the things that are to be expected from the whole record. ‘The Claw Is The Law’ continues in the same way, a spoken intro opens ‘Fighting Spirits’ and the speed remains the same but the number becomes a little catchier with progression. The galloping banger ‘In At The Death’, shows that TOWER HILL can deliver not only speed but also in the style of NWOBHM. With ‘All The Little Devils Are Proud Of Hell’, ‘How Am I’ and ‘Antigone’, you can continue to shake your hair and pump your fists in the air. The closer, ‘Port Of Saints’ is going to surely evoke RUNNING WILD associations from the song title and can bring a broad smile to the Rock’n’Rolf Co. Besides commanding musicianship, the lyrical storytelling should also amaze anyone, which is fantastically delivered by R.F. Traynor throughout the record length. The production is modern but warm enough to keep things interesting and retain the atmosphere that such a record demands. So is the enticing cover art by Andreas Marschall (RUNNING WILD, BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL, KREATOR), which should lure anyone at first sight. Altogether, with this debut, TOWER HILL makes a solid start with their fresh blast of Heavy Metal, and if this level is even roughly maintained, the band’s path will lead consistently upwards.
