The Great Rebellious

Absolute brutal early-mid ’90s era Death Metal mixed with the same period tempered Grindcore, from Groningen, Holland appears this crushing new band to the international scene TOXOCARA. Formed on the cusp of ’03-’04 and out of the ashes of several promising Dutch acts as PROSTITUTE DISFIGUREMENT, SEIZURE, SANGUINARY, THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT and EREBUS, it is no wonder at all where the bulk of this act’s aggressive professionalism in song writing, vocals, recorded sound and delivery of material occur from. No shortage of talent here! Of these eight tracks on “The Great Rebellious”, the band’s sophomore CD via Twilight Vertrieb, follow up to 2005’s “Imminent Repulsion (Suffice to Prevent)” put out through New York’s Sevared Records, I am more than pleased to hear that the once favored tide of brutal, technical Death Metal seems not to have died out, as I was under the impression, upon the shores of the Netherlands. But more so in fact like a vicious undertow still lurks beneath those dark waters. Expertise in TOXOCARA’s playing and precision of skill are what this 5 piece are all about. Together with a solid recorded sound and punishing / grinding tempo throughout, it’s not hard at all to fall into their semi-hypnotic rhythms. For fans of such bands as early GORGUTS, GOREFEST, SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, BOLT THROWER, CARCASS or NAPALM DEATH. If you like any of these old gods your money is going to be more than well spent upon TOXOCARA. As this CD was a digital one sent over for a review, I have no idea what the lyrics are like or the overall packaging of this album. However from what I could understand from the vocalist and certainly with song titles as ‘Godking’, ‘Wake Of Controversy’, ‘U48’, ‘Among Amon’ and ‘Maenadic Mausoleum’ it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that this band leaves no subject untouched and assuredly will span the literal world for topic matter. As for the cover art, CD booklet and tray card, all I can say is that if any amount of the professionalism that is on display here in terms of TOXOCARA’s music, songwriting and vocals spills over into the rest of this discs forums. No question you will not be disappointed in any area of this CD. Great band! Hope to hear more from them soon! Contact: www.toxocara.com or www.myspace.com/toxocara or www.twilight-vertrieb.com
