Fresh from Southern Germany, we have TRISTE here, who just released their first album after a digital EP three years ago. As it is impossible to gather information on a line-up or even a number of musicians, I skip the introduction here and go over to what said new album “Scapegoats” has to offer. And that is quite a lot (not only) for guys like me who dig their Death Metal with a huge dose of Doom. From the first riff, the listener can nearly catch the heaviness with bare hands. The guitars are like a curtain fire, the grooves are weighing more than a ton and the bass is definitely massive. On their social media, TRISTE don’t even deny that BOLT THROWER is one of their influences. But it’s not only the British war machine here. We also find the American school of Doom Death Metal (INCANTATION, e.g.) and a more than decent vibe of Funeral Doom as well. And these influences are doing fine together, making “Scapegoat” a really awesome deadly cocktail. Songs like the opening ‘Sinking Bodies’, ‘Civilizations Come And Go’, ‘Death Cult’ or the slow-motion monster ‘Below Zero’ are definitely worth being checked out by anyone who is into Doom, Death and other damnations.
