Do we really need re-recorded versions of Metal classics? Does one really think that a re-recorded version of a monumental song could sound better than the original? In my humble opinion both questions have to be answered with no. Well, here we have 11 re-recorded versions of songs which, without any doubt, are masterpieces of early Heavy Metal. The first two TYGERS OF PAN TANG albums are so fucking brilliant and so I thought re-recordings of those NWOBHM milestones could be nothing but blasphemy. But hey, I was so wrong!!! The new line-up (guitarist Robb Weir is the only remaining member from the 80s) did an awesome job and recorded those new versions with the right attitude. Here I especially have to mention Jacobo Meille on vocals, his vocals are fucking cool and fit very well to the compositions, and the marvelous guitar leads. The new versions are slightly different but close enough to the original. So I have nothing to complain, but I really can enjoy the new versions very much. I especially think that the new version of ‘Suzie Smiles’ kicks major ass. Anyway, like aforementioned I don’t think that you can improve a classic composition but in this case the TYGERS did everything right. So I highly recommend this release to every NWOBHM lover and also to everyone who just knows what fantastic Metal is. “Tygers Sessions: The First Wave” contains “The Wildcat Sessions” (5 songs) from 2010 and “The Spellbound Sessions” (6 songs) from 2011. Both EPs were limited editions of only 1,000 copies and only available through the band’s website. So if you missed those EPs here’s your next chance. You won’t regret it. www.tygersofpantang.com, www.facebook.com/pages/tygers-of-pan-tang/25781684638, www.skolrecords.com
