ULCERATE
Of Fracture And Failure

ULCERATE are one of the recent new signings to the mighty Neurotic Records out of the Netherlands. They are a relatively new band from New Zealand with this being their second release other than a couple of demos. Neurotic Records, to me, is one of those labels that has done no wrong and I always really look forward to new releases from them. With that being said I am sad to say that for the first time I was disappointed. Now don’t get me wrong, this band is obviously very talented… it’s just that the vocals really completely ruin it for me. ULCERATE play that ultra-tech form of Metal that has become so popular recently (not to everyone) and in my humble opinion can hold their own with the majority of the bands out their today playing this style of Metal but they have more of a screaming “Hardcore” type of vocal delivery that I personally just can’t get around. It reminds me of EMETH’s most recent album where they chose to change the vocals to screaming and it really just ruined a great album for me. But personal views aside, as I said before these guys can play. I especially enjoyed the cymbal work of the drummer who really gave a top notch performance. They also changed the tempo frequently which is a rarity with this stuff. If you are into technical music and you don’t mind the screaming vox then you should check these guys out. If you are into old school Metal then stay far away as you will probably find this unbearable. www.neurotic-records.com
