Even when the band ULVEHUNGER was just born this year and is releasing their first production, a full length through Darkness Shall Rise Productions, it doesn’t mean that the band members are just beginners trying to sound like Black Metal. This is not the case. “Retaliation” is an album in which the intervention of some well known and experimented Norwegian musicians is showing all their background. Using the name of just one band as an example, vocalist “L.J. Balvaz”, has participated in bands like CADAVER. Guitarist Ken B. Fletcher made part of DISGUSTING. Bassist Anders Odden has played live in CELTIC FROST and “Frost” won’t need any introduction as he has been the historical SATYRICON drummer and has been behind all the iconic releases of the band. So, these guys know exactly what they’re doing. “Retaliation” is covered by the classical Norwegian Black Metal vibe and is presenting its darkest inheritance on the road while still incorporating some heavy or thrashy resources brightly. You may find some sparks of bands like IMMORTAL (listen to a song like ‘The Mighty Pentagram’), GORGOROTH, CARPATHIAN FOREST or even CELTIC FROST (‘Rise From The Shadows’ has the vibe), resulting in a very interesting take. With 10 tracks, over 42 minutes long, “Retaliation” is here to contribute with fresh air to the ancient Norwegian Black Metal saga but adding their own perspective and spirit.
