“Anthology Of Horror” is the second full length album by VINCENT CROWLEY, the solo project by the man behind the legendary Satanic Death Metal band, ACHERON. After stopping ACHERON in 2019, he started this new project of slow old school Death Metal, mixed with Heavy Metal, Horror Metal and Doom Metal, a style described by Crowley himself as Macabre Metal. Since I’m an ACHERON fan, I’m surely sympathetic to listen to a new Crowley creature, but this new incarnation is quite far from the magnifence of his works during the ’90s. Here we have a total of ten tracks for almost 50 minutes of music. The concept is totally inspired by horror movies, Lovecraftian myths and macabre themes. The front cover, as well as the first song, is an homage to the novel Amityville Horror and the well known movie franchise. The vocals are the typical Crowley’s ones: an old school hybrid of soft Death Metal growling and screamings. The music is a captivating and evocative mixture of simple and atmospheric Death Metal in the vein of the slowest ACHERON’s albums (especially “Those Who Have Risen”), obscure American Black / Thrash Metal (SATHANAS for example), Epic Doom Metal à la CANDLEMASS, sinister Horror and Heavy Metal like MERCYFUL FATE and very early DEATH SS. The satanic element has been completely removed from the lyrical content and the concept. The sound production and the musicianship are top quality here, because the other members are all well known in the American Death Metal underground. In conclusion, if you’re familiar to ACHERON, you like Horror themes and you’re not looking for a dose of brutal and ultra fast Death Metal, “Anthology Of Horror” is an honest album. www.facebook.com/vincentcrowley666, www.facebook.com/hammerheartrecords
