WESENWILLE returns with album number three titled “III: The Great Light Above”. I’ve reviewed their earlier releases for the zine and can say with ease that WESENWILLE has been writing some excellent stuff in the past few years. Their latest doesn’t differ a lot but it does take the band a step ahead. The band chooses a rather dissonant path, expanding in sound then their preceding efforts. The album kickstarts with ‘Revelation Of The Construct’ which pretty much lays down the blueprint for the entirety of 46 minutes. As much as the sound seems like a standard Black Metal derivative, WESENWILLE adds beautiful elements of background synth that add a stellar touch of transcendence to their entire sound. The vocals are standard as usual and so is the drumming. It is the atmosphere that the music brings in that makes “III: The Great Light Above” an enjoyable affair. I went through some of the band’s pictures on Facebook to check if the guitarists used a 7 string guitar anywhere and I didn’t find any such information. The reason I did that was the track ‘The Legacy Of Giants’ which sounds incredibly massive and heavy, I wondered if the band used different equipment than usual here? Looks like they’ve put together this entire sound on a regular set of instruments which makes it even better. WESENWILLE aren’t necessarily your standard Black Metal band, with progressive elements entwined with an amazing atmosphere, they’ve managed to stand out for sure. I certainly enjoyed this full length. Recommended! For more information, please visit www.facebook.com/wesenwille, www.facebook.com/ladloproductions
