WRATHRONE
Eve Of Infliction
(Great Dane Records)
32:42min

WRATHRONE are a Death Metal band from Finland. “Eve Of Infliction” is WRATHRONE’s third full length album and their first outing with Great Dane Records. WRATHRONE have a very simplistic approach, whilst their atmosphere is very HM2 oriented, the rhythm section on the other hand sounds very British old school. If you heard this band randomly you’d perhaps believe this is a proper experienced Swedish band, however WRATHRONE have managed to put it all together appropriately on this album. I suppose the central aspect of the sound of this band is balance. Everything is put in the mix together in the right proportion, nothing is overdone. The vocals do sometimes take the center stage, but considering how well they sound, there’s no problem whatsoever. A track like ‘Darkness Concealing Chaos’ is a fantastic example, a fantastic mid paced tempo, a beautifully crafted melodic solo with the song progressing like a column of soldiers. As we move to the next song ‘Infliction’ the band’s perfected approach is on full display, at 06:25 this is the longest track on the album and not once does it feel dragged or pushed. I’ve got to say this is good fun and I’m going to be certainly playing this album a lot in the car. The album is just over 32 minutes with the band managing to showcase their best and it works. In short I can summarise the sound of this album as a fantastic mash up of traditional Swedish and Finnish Death Metal sound that sticks to the comfort zone of the genre. There are no heroics here, no gymnastics of the mind or instrument wizardry, the album in entirety is a fun listen. Should WRATHRONE be touring in your area please do go see them, this sound will make for a fantastic live experience. Recommended!
