Normally, when it comes to Black Metal, I look for certain “parameters”, like the band sounding dark, dense, atmospheric. They are pillars that for me structure Black Metal. But, we must remember that much of where Black Metal comes from, was born in the same caves where Punk was born. And of course, interconnecting the two does not always meet the eye so easily. The first time I listened to MIASMES, I remembered the premise of the relationship (Punk – Black Metal). And well, MIASMES is that parallel. They have always justified their music on the basis of aggressiveness, good rhythms, song dynamics and why not, a bit of that old wine from the most classic school of Metal (MOTÖRHEAD, CELTIC FROST, for example). It was MOTÖRHEAD and CELTIC FROST that were the first bands I related them to. Rather than with those proper to Black Metal as we understand it. And of course, going through their work, MIASMES offers a lens through which we can see all that “spectrum of invisible darkness” from the largest wave of Nordic Black Metal. This new album, coming through Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions, is nothing other than MIASMES looking at themselves from within. “Violence, Blasphème Et Pourriture” sustains the band’s initial argument and pours it into an album that already comes with five years of experience on its shoulders. Just to mention it, that ‘Possédé’ blew my mind. A phenomenal track made just for someone like me. I will also highlight the MOTÖRHEAD cover they do at the end, ‘In The Name Of Tragedy’, a cover that points in the right direction. The other songs are those of a band that has run through its veins of street-level, primitive, savage and organic Metal from the early ’80s. There is not much more to say. Great album.
