MIASMES
Répugnance
(Les Acteurs De L'Ombre Productions)

If you’re reading these pages regularly, you will have already found out that I’m fond of nearly all the releases French Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions put out over the last years. Thus I was very excited to listen to their latest offering, the first full length album “Répugnance” from MIASMES after their EP “Vermines” last year. And I was not disappointed for sure. From the first moment, MIASMES take the listener on a journey through the worlds and abysses of dark extreme Metal. Of course “Répugnance” is Black Metal, but not in its purest form. The songs are covering the whole broad spectre of the genre, mainly in just one song. Sometimes I thought of DARKTHRONE, the next moment it’s MARDUK, then SATYRICON came to mind. And when you least expect it, a CELTIC FROST moment comes around the corner. Or a guitar solo break with a massive influence from old fashioned Thrash and even Classic Metal. Combine all that with a punkish attitude and you might get an idea how MIASMES sound on “Répugnance”. These guys definitely know what they do and they are fine musicians as well. It’s especially the fantastic drumming that really makes this album a really great one. The raw, very natural sound is just the icing of the cake. All this makes songs like ‘Prophétie’, ‘Peste’ and the final ‘Pestilence’ real masterpieces of the genre, even though it ain’t fair to pick out just two or three songs from “Répugnance”.
